Excellent Episodes: Using and Creating Podcasts with Students


Podcasts are a great educational tool for virtual, in-person, and blended educational environments and they can be used to support any area of the curriculum! This session will introduce some great ones at all levels and content areas in K-12. In addition, having students create podcasts, as a formative or summative assessment, is a perfect way for them to showcase their passions and content knowledge. Learn how to get them started by exploring some practical ideas and easy-to-use tools for researching, recording, editing and producing a podcast! 



It's Time to Find Your EdTech Passion!


How do you identify your edtech passion? Kathy can help! She will showcase the aspects of educational technology used to support meaningful teaching and learning she cares deeply about. She will provide a wide array of practices, pedagogies, and thought-provoking uses of technology by educators and students. From cool gadgets to embedding technology, and everything in-between, you will come away with a plan of how you can focus on “doing what you love” in the edtech arena! (Keynote or General Session)



Sketchnoting in the Classroom


Sketchnoting, also call visual notetaking, allows students to creatively organize their thoughts using sketches. Visual notetaking targets the auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners as all three areas are utilized. Whether taking notes the traditional way and then creating a sketchnote version, or sketching notes during a lecture, with sketchnotes students showcase their personalized understanding of the content. Learn how to teach students the basics of sketchnoting, how to create a structure that can be used for the process, and practice creating some sketchnotes of your own in this session. Apps and tools that can be used for digital sketchnoting will also be covered. (Grades 5-12)



The Common Thread: Weaving Information Literacy Skills to Engage Learners


By engaging students in problem and project based learning, impacting their emotions, causing them to question and think about controversial topics, and presenting content in the form of visuals and stories, research shows that students more often retain content and turn it into personal knowledge. By infusing the information literacy skill set as the common thread across the content areas, students have the foundation they need to succeed. Learn how the team of classroom teacher, teacher librarian, and technology teacher can work together to create and teach lessons that intertwine these literacies.



Digital Storytelling Across the Curriculum


Digital storytelling across the curriculum can be used as an assessment at all levels to showcase student mastery of content knowledge. With many sets of standards including of the use of digital technologies, digital storytelling is the perfect model for communicating content knowledge using a digital tool set. Bloom's Revised Taxonomy, the SAMR, and the TECH model in relation to these types of assessments will also be discussed.Come learn about the apps, software, and online tools that make this easy to implement in the classroom!



A Picture is Worth 1000 Words: Using Infographics as a Creative Assessment

An infographic is a visual representation of information. Come learn tips and tricks for using student-created infographics as an authentic assessment. The presentation will showcase how infographics are created and concentrate on the student literacy skills necessary to research, critique, summarize, and communicate information in a visual way to reach their audience.

Sketchnoting in the Classroom: iPad, Android, Windows Tablet or Paper/Pencil) (5-12)

Apps and tools that can be used for digital sketchnoting will also be covered.


If you want to sketchnote digitally, bring an iPad 4 or newer, an Android Tablet, or Windows Surface tablet. Don't forget your stylus  Please also install the Autodesk Sketchbook app for iOS, Android, or Surface Tablet before the workshop


If you want to sketchnote by hand, bring an unlined journal with at least medium-weight pages, a black gel pen or thin-point black marker and colored pencils to the workshop. (2 or 3 hours)

This workshop will include the process of planning for a digital story and introduce online tools to use in producing and creating the stories.  Participants will create different types of digital stories which include  a personal narrative, a story that informs/instructs, and a story that documents an event. Bloom's Revised Taxonomy and the SAMR model in relation to these types of assessments will also be discussed. Apps to download/register for will be provided prior to the workshop. Participants should bring a Mac or Windows laptop, Windows tablet, Chromebook, Android tablet, or iPad 2 or newer to the workshop.  (3 hours )


Using Student-Created Infographics to Master 21st Century Literacies: All devices (6-12)

An infographic is a visual representation of information. This workshop will provide an in-depth overview of how best to use student-created infographics as an authentic formative or summative assessment. Kathy will showcase how infographics are created and concentrate on the student literacy skills necessary to research, critique, summarize, and communicate information in a visual way to reach an audience. During the workshop, attendees will create an infographic in small groups to both practice the literacies necessary for infographic creation, as well as share examples with their colleagues. Apps to download/register for will be provided prior to the workshop. Participants should bring a Mac or Windows laptop, Windows tablet, Chromebook, or iPad 2 or newer to the workshop. (3 hours)


 LAPTOP/CHROMEBOOK WORKSHOPS

IPAD WORKSHOPS


Fun with iPhone and iPad Photography!

There are so many ways photography can be infused across the curriculum- from taking images of student work to share with parents to students writing a 6-word story about a photograph they have taken. Come learn the photography basics and some tips for iPhone/iPad photography, practice these new skills on a short photo walk, and then create assets using the photos you have taken! You will come away with a ton of ideas for using photos in the classroom and how students can easily share photos! Please download these apps ahead of time: Canva, Layout for Instagram, Adobe Post, and Chatterbox. (2 hours)
